Who I am#
I post here as Morinehtar — a reference to one of the Blue Wizards in Tolkien’s legendarium, the two Istari who travelled East and were lost from the main story. The blog name “Lost Istari” and the tagline “notes from the East” both lean into that. I keep my real identity off this side of the internet on purpose.
What I’m focused on#
I’ve been steering my interests toward privacy engineering — figuring out how to make systems handle sensitive data with intent rather than by accident. Most posts here come from that.
Why this blog#
The public material on “how to actually do privacy engineering in your warehouse / application / CI” is thinner than it should be. I’m using this blog partly to learn in public — every post is something I’ve recently built or thought through, not curated wisdom — and partly as a notebook I can come back to when I forget what I figured out six months ago.
